Our History

Sitting one day with the pastoral team after reading the Book of Acts three times, the question was raised, “Does our church look like the church in the Book of Acts?” The answer was a resounding no!

After much prayer and discussion, Dr. Bennett C. Smith announced that he would be closing Destiny Center Church and would be launching a new church shortly thereafter. At this point the church did not have a name for the new launch.

One Sunday while preaching, Dr. Smith made the statement that his desire was to see every member leave a legacy after they are long gone. Immediately, he understood that the new name would be Legacy Church International. After that morning session, Dr. Smith spoke with the other pastors and Pastor Duke Lamastra said he knew that was going to be the name as soon as Dr. Smith mentioned legacy. The other pastors felt the same way. On June 18, 2014 the church was incorporated and officially launched in August of that year.

While Dr. Smith could be considered the founding pastor, it is understood as one church was closed and another opened, the founders led by Dr. Smith were Pastor Jason Purifoy, Pastor Duke Lamastra, Pastor Denisse Lamastra, Pastor Demone Clarke, and Pastor Jason Dunn.

Our mission is simple: Help people change their thinking thereby changing their living. Legacy purposes to establish church plants around the world to meet this purpose of helping people change the way they think. Our motto is simple: Change your thinking, change your living.
